Wiggins wins men's time trial at the Nationals 2014

27th June 2014

Bradley Wiggins won the men's time trial at the 2014 British National Road Championships in cold, wet conditions at Celtic Manor in Monmouthshire yesterday.

Wiggins' time for the hilly 26-mile course was 53min56, reports British Cycling. Geraint Thomas was second in 55min04, and 2013 champion Alex Dowsett third, with a time of 55min17.

'This is probably my last British time-trial championship, so to win it, and perhaps never come back again, is a nice way to end it, and add it to the Olympic title, and try and win the worlds at the end of the year,' 34-year-old Wiggins said.

On Wednesday, Emma Pooley won the women's time trial, ahead of Katie Archibald and Dame Sarah Storey. Elinor Barker, Laura Trott, and Joanna Rowsell were fourth, fifth and sixth respectively.

The Guardian quotes Wiggins confirming that he will not ride the Tour de France. 'I'd like to have been there at the Tour, but it came down that there was a cut-off point, and having gone back on the track early, I didn't have the preparation. It's disappointing on a personal level, but I think from a team point of view it's probably the strongest team possible as it stands today.'
