Tour de Buffy sportive, Great Chesterford & Saffron Walden

Cambridge News reports that the charity Buffy Playbus is organising a cycle sportive before the Tour de France, on 22nd June 2014. It is called the Tour de Buffy.

The main ride is 50 miles, or 80km. It begins at Great Chesterford Community Centre, Uttlesford, and joins the route of Stage 3 of the Tour de France 2014, via Saffron Walden and Finchingfield, then goes on a loop through the Essex countryside, taking in Thaxted, Newport, Clavering, Langley Upper Green, Littlebury Green, and Duxford, before returning to Great Chesterford. The route of the Tour de Buffy is shown on this map.

The event is open to a maximum of 300 people. It costs £20, and all proceeds go to the Buffy Playbus charity, which provides activities for pre-school children in isolated communities in Uttlesford. Entry is through British Cycling.

Another sportive, the Carnival Tour Sportive, takes place on Sunday 6th July, the day before Stage 3 of the Tour de France 2014. Organised by Walden Velo and Saffron Walden Round Table, it will take in the roads of the Tour route. All 1000 places have already been taken.
