Stage 20 Tour de France 2014 report: Martin wins time trial from Bergerac to Périgueux

26th July 2014

Stage 20 was a 54km time trial from Bergerac to Périgueux, which would decide the podium positions behind Nibali.

The riders go in reverse GC order, so the last competitor was Nibali.

Time trial specialist Tony Martin set a time of 1h06.21, and won the time trial. Tom Dumoulin set the second fastest mark.

In second, third, and fourth overall were Pinot, Peraud, and Valverde, with only 15s separating them. Peraud was riding a great time trial, but suffered a back wheel puncture, which cost him around 15s as his bike was replaced. Nevertheless, he gained enough time on Pinot to move from 3rd to 2nd, while Pinot finishes 3rd, and Valverde fourth.

Van Garderen's time was good enough to take him from 6th to 5th in the overall standings, with Bardet (who also punctured) slipping back. Leopold Konig's ride took him from 9th in the GC to 7th, leapfrogging Mollema and Ten Dam who are now 10th and 9th, also behind Zubeldia in 8th.

These are the stage 20 results.
