Lizzie Armitstead is to ride the Tour de Yorkshire 2016, reports Cycling Weekly. The women's race is a single stage, on the same course and same day as the men's Stage 2.
The women will parade around Armitstead's home town of Otley at 8.15 in the morning of Saturday 30th April, before starting to race at Pool-in-Wharfedale, and covering 135km to the finish in Doncaster. Armitstead will wear her World Champion's rainbow jersey. The men start in Otley at 2.20pm.
According to William Fotheringham in the Guardian, the first prize of €20,000 for the women's race means that it is the most lucrative event on the women's calendar. He also reports that the whole race will be televised (about 3.5 hours, on Eurosport, with the final 3 hours also on ITV4).
Welcome to Yorkshire recently announced the timings for the Tour de Yorkshire 2016, which feature three scenarios based on a slow, medium, and fast pace.
