Chris Boardman's mum was killed while cycling in North Wales. The accident happened about 2pm on Saturday 16th July 2016, and she died in hospital in the early hours of Sunday morning.
Carol Boardman, a former racing cyclist, was riding her bike at a roundabout at Connah's Quay when she was hit by a white Mitsubishi L200 pick-up truck. North Wales police are calling for any witnesses to call 101.
Chris Boardman said, 'Our mum was the most positive, outgoing person you could ever hope to meet, and her generosity of spirit inspired everyone she met. Many of our childhood memories involved my mother and the outdoors, walking out over Hoylake sandbank, swimming in the deep gullies, or hunting for fossils on Llandegla Moor in north Wales. Wanting to share her passion for cycling, even well into her 70s, she often took groups of young novices out on their first forays into North Wales.'
This is Chris Boardman's tribute to his mother (click on the tweet to read it):

Chris Grayling was yesterday appointed as the Transport Secretary, replacing Patrick McLoughlin. Robert Goodwill remains the minister in the DfT with responsibility for cycling, and Philip Hammond is the new Chancellor. What does it mean for cycling (and is it time to despair?)
