Preparations for the Tour de France in North Yorkshire
27th June 2014

North Yorkshire is getting decked out in Tour de France colours, with just a week to go before the race.
G&Ts ice cream parlour (photo above), between Ripon and Pateley Bridge, has been given a striking Tour de France makeover. The owners believe they have definitely seen more custom as a result of their re-paint, and say that they the Tour is going to be massive - more than some people realise. They are going to hold on to their Tour de France colours for as long as they can - but Harrogate Borough Council has already been in touch, and they may be forced by the planners to paint over their polka dots.

In Ripley, the Tour de France bunting is up, and yesterday (26th June 2014) the first Tour de France campers appeared to have settled in.
In the village of Sawley, a number of life-size figures adorn the side of the road. There's a rider in willow, spectators, a couple having tea, and a farmer on a tractor. The Sawley Arms has got in on the act too.
