Where to watch the junior men's road race, UCI 2019 Yorkshire Worlds
Harry the
World Champion bear at Richmond
The junior men's road race at the
UCI 2019 Yorkshire Worlds takes place on Thursday 26th September
2019. Setting off from Richmond, the peloton heads for Leyburn, Wensley,
and Aysgarth Falls, before going up Bishopdale and climbing Kidstones
Bank. Then it's down into Wharfedale, to Bolton Abbey, and up onto
Blubberhouses Moor. The race heads east from Blubberhouses to Harrogate,
for three laps of the Harrogate circuit.
My suggestions for where to watch the junior men's road race are
Richmond, Kidstones Bank, Bolton Abbey, Blubberhouses Moor, and
Harrogate.
Where to watch the junior men's road race: Richmond
King's Head Hotel, Richmond
The event sets off from the Market Place in Richmond, so that will be
the place to catch the build-up and the atmosphere.
The neutralised section at a reduced pace takes the pack past Friary
Tower, along Dundas Street, down to the river Swale and over it on
Mercury Bridge, then past The Station.
The riders head off towards Catterick Garrison, where there could be
crowds watching too.
Approximate time at Richmond: 1210
Where to watch the junior men's road race: Kidstones Bank
Kidstones Bank
It's quite a gentle ride up Bishopdale. Only near the top does the
gradient steepen, and this is the climb called Kidstones Bank.
The pace will be slower on the steep section, so it will be a good
place to spectate, and - I would hope - give plenty of encouragement
to the young riders.
Approximate time at the top of Kidstones Bank: 1312
Where to watch the junior men's road race: Bolton Abbey
World Champion bear at
Bolton Abbey
The riders will be whizzing past Bolton Abbey pretty quickly, so
you'll only catch a brief glimpse of them.
Still, if you're planning a day out at Bolton Abbey anyway, it will
be worth being by the roadside around 2pm, to catch a World
Championship moment.
Approximate time at Bolton Abbey: 1400
Where to watch the U23 men's road race: Blubberhouses Moor
World Champion bear
on Blubberhouses Moor
The riders make their way from Bolton Bridge up onto Blubberhouses
Moor.
As always, a climb is a good place to watch because the pace is
lower. Plus, there are some long sight lines here, and nice
surroundings, which should make for super photos.
Approximate time at Blubberhouses Moor: 1410
Where to watch the junior men's road race: Harrogate
Parliament St, on the
UCI 2019 Harrogate circuit
Perhaps surprisingly, the junior men's road race is almost as long as
the elite women's. Like the elite women, they do three laps of the
Harrogate circuit.
The advantage of watching in Harrogate is that there are three
chances to see the riders.
There's to be a fan park on West Park Stray, with stalls,
entertainment, refreshments, and big screens showing the race.
Approximate time in Harrogate (start of lap 1): 1436; Finish line for
the final time: 1533
