Where to watch the U23 men's road race, UCI 2019 Yorkshire Worlds
Harry the
World Champion bear at Greenhow Hill
The U23 men's
road race at the UCI 2019 Yorkshire Worlds takes place on Friday
27th September 2019. The first part of the route from Doncaster north to
Ripon is quite flat; it's a rolling road to Pateley Bridge, then comes
the climb of Greenhow Hill. Then the race heads for Harrogate, and three
laps of the testing circuit.
My suggestions include Doncaster, Tadcaster, Boroughbridge, Ripon,
Pateley Bridge, Greenhow Hill, and Harrogate.
Where to watch the U23 men's road race: Doncaster
Doncaster Dome
There will be riders warming up, and plenty of ceremony and spectacle
at the start.
Friday 27th September 2019 sees two races start in Doncaster, and it
will be well worth being there for a Yorkshire World Championship
experience.
Where to watch the U23 men's road race: Tadcaster
Tadcaster bridge
Tadcaster hosted the start of Stage 2 of the Tour de Yorkshire 2017,
partly as a celebration of the re-opening of the bridge over the
Wharfe, which had been damaged by floods.
There's no doubt that it's a cycling town - if you go there on a
weekend, you'll see lots of people out on their bikes.
I would imagine that the people of Tadcaster will come out and cheer
on the under 23 riders.
Where to watch the U23 men's road race: Boroughbridge
The Dining Room, Boroughbridge
The small town of Boroughbridge features on the route of the under 23
men's race. In early September, there were already lots of decorations
up, so it does seem that Boroughbridge is embracing the event.
It'll be a festive atmosphere as the competitors head along High
Street and Fishergate.
Where to watch the U23 men's road race: Ripon
Ripon Market Place
Ripon features not only in the U23 men's road race, but in other
World Championship races too. Notably, the U23 men's and elite women's
individual time trials start at the Market Place.
The U23 men's road race comes through Ripon, though it doesn't visit
the Market Place. The riders stay on the B6265, called Bondgate Green
on the way into the city, and Studley Road on the way out.
Where to watch the U23 men's road race: Pateley Bridge
Pateley Bridge High
Street
Pateley Bridge makes multiple appearances in the World Championships.
The elite women's road race is the most high profile event to visit
the town, and the U23 men's race will be a dress rehearsal and warm-up
the day before.
The route will be packed with spectators, and it should be an
exciting day in Pateley Bridge.
Where to watch the U23 men's road race: Greenhow Hill
World Champion bear at
Greenhow Hill
Greenhow Hill is arguably the best place to watch the U23 men's road
race.
The steep hill will certainly slow the riders down, and there should
be a good atmosphere, and plenty of encouragement for the competitors.
Where to watch the U23 men's road race: Harrogate
Parliament St, on the
UCI 2019 Harrogate circuit
The advantage of watching in Harrogate is that there are three laps
of the Harrogate circuit, so
three chances to see the riders. By the time the race arrives in
Harrogate, there may well be a lead group featuring the strongest
competitors.
There's to be a fan park on West Park Stray, with big screens showing
the race.
