That&#8217;s according to a poll by Survation for the Car Free Megacities campaign, <a href=\"https:\/\/cyclingindustry.news\/residents-of-cities-globally-share-desire-for-less-car-dominance\/\">reported in Cycling Industry News<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The cities where residents were polled are New York, Paris and London.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Fewer Cars<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Support for fewer cars in cities was:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>72% in New York<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>66% in Paris and<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>72% in London<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">More Space for Active Travel<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Support for giving more space to walking and cycling was:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>71% in New York<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>70% in Paris and<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>68% in London<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Car-Free Cities<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Support for cities going completely car-free was:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>49% in New York<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>45% in Paris and<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>51% in London<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>Respondents were told that there would be exemptions for car clubs and Blue Badge holders.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Reasons for the Responses<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Cycling Industry News says that addressing air pollution, reducing carbon emissions and preventing dangerous driving were among the top reasons cited by respondents for reducing car-dominance.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>81% of Londoners said they wanted action on climate change.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Car Ownership<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Most people in these cities don&#8217;t own cars:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>65% of New Yorkers<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>70% of Parisians and<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>66% of Londoners<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>A majority of respondents said that if public transport were free, they would use it to replace most or all of the trips for which they currently use a car.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Quote from Car Free Megacities<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Cathy Lamri of Paris Sans Voiture said:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\">\n<p>&#8216;This survey shows us, if traffic was radically reduced in London, New York and Paris, that the majority of city-dwellers in our three major cities would be thrilled. They want to live in a peaceful city, where their children can move around safely, breathe clean air, and where nature and biodiversity have their place.
