It is more than five years since the Otley Road Cycleway project began.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>They came with no specific proposals, and insisted that &#8216;it&#8217;s early days&#8217;. There are no parallel side streets.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Sending people via Cold Bath Road would be a considerable detour. Cold Bath Road also carries 8,000 vehicles a day.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full\"><a href=\"https:\/\/hedgehogcycling.co.uk\/wp\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/05\/Screen-Shot-2023-05-18-at-11.25.39.png\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"528\" height=\"564\" src=\"https:\/\/hedgehogcycling.co.uk\/wp\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/05\/Screen-Shot-2023-05-18-at-11.25.39.png\" alt=\"Cold Bath Road traffic count\" class=\"wp-image-3324\" srcset=\"https:\/\/hedgehogcycling.co.uk\/wp\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/05\/Screen-Shot-2023-05-18-at-11.25.39.png 528w, https:\/\/hedgehogcycling.co.uk\/wp\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/05\/Screen-Shot-2023-05-18-at-11.25.39-281x300.png 281w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 528px) 100vw, 528px\" \/><\/a><figcaption class=\"wp-element-caption\">Cold Bath Road traffic count<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>Cycling in mixed traffic is only acceptable up to 2,500 vehicles a day.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full\"><a href=\"https:\/\/hedgehogcycling.co.uk\/wp\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/05\/CID-para-7.1.1.png\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"430\" height=\"180\" src=\"https:\/\/hedgehogcycling.co.uk\/wp\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/05\/CID-para-7.1.1.png\" alt=\"Cycling in mixed traffic in LTN 1\/20\" class=\"wp-image-3325\" srcset=\"https:\/\/hedgehogcycling.co.uk\/wp\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/05\/CID-para-7.1.1.png 430w, https:\/\/hedgehogcycling.co.uk\/wp\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/05\/CID-para-7.1.1-300x126.png 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 430px) 100vw, 430px\" \/><\/a><figcaption class=\"wp-element-caption\">Cycling in mixed traffic in LTN 1\/20<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>There isn&#8217;t space for dedicated cycle tracks on Cold Bath Road.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>It&#8217;s impossible to escape the conclusion that NYC are wasting everyone&#8217;s time by pretending that they have an alternative route, when it doesn&#8217;t take more than 5 minutes to work out that there is no viable alternative route.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>They need to build Phase 2 of the Otley Road Cycleway.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">General Proposals<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>NYC Highways suggested that they might use the \u00a3565,000 they have left from <a href=\"https:\/\/hedgehogcycling.co.uk\/wp\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/02\/npif-spending.png\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">the original \u00a34.275 million<\/a> for:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>20mph<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>LTNs<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>crossing points<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/hedgehogcycling.co.uk\/wp\/2023\/02\/27\/n-yorkshire-want-to-waste-money-on-signposting-non-existent-cycle-routes\/\">cycle signage<\/a><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>bus corridor improvements<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>These are general ideas &#8211; they put forward no specific proposals.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Timetable: No On-the-Ground Improvements in 2023<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>NYC set out a timetable which involves letting the whole of 2023 slip by with no prospect of any on-the-ground improvements:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>July or August 2023 Local Area Committee meeting of Councillors<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>August or September 2023 Executive meeting<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>design work from Autumn 2023, with any on-the-ground work to be done by the end of March 2024 (if you believe it)<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Next Steps<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>I can&#8217;t see any meaningful improvements being made by the current team. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>NYC has floated the idea of setting up a dedicated team of active travel officers.
