Originally, there were four flagship cycling schemes; now there are none.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">There are three main elements to the Victoria Avenue scheme in the TRO:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>remodelling of the West Park\/Victoria Avenue junction, with a signalised crossing<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>moving the zebra crossing near the Library very slightly and<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>signalised crossing at the Station Parade end of Victoria Avenue<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">West Park\/Victoria Avenue Junction<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><a href=\"https:\/\/hedgehogcycling.co.uk\/wp\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/09\/va-tro-1.png\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"1024\" height=\"608\" src=\"https:\/\/hedgehogcycling.co.uk\/wp\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/09\/va-tro-1-1024x608.png\" alt=\"Junction of Victoria Avenue and West Park\" class=\"wp-image-7002\" srcset=\"https:\/\/hedgehogcycling.co.uk\/wp\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/09\/va-tro-1-1024x608.png 1024w, https:\/\/hedgehogcycling.co.uk\/wp\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/09\/va-tro-1-300x178.png 300w, https:\/\/hedgehogcycling.co.uk\/wp\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/09\/va-tro-1-768x456.png 768w, https:\/\/hedgehogcycling.co.uk\/wp\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/09\/va-tro-1-600x356.png 600w, https:\/\/hedgehogcycling.co.uk\/wp\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/09\/va-tro-1.png 1041w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 1024px) 100vw, 1024px\" \/><\/a><figcaption class=\"wp-element-caption\">Junction of Victoria Avenue and West Park<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The crossing of Victoria Avenue at its junction with West Park is to be signalised, i.e. green or red man for people on foot.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The footway is also to be built out, to make it harder for drivers to make an illegal movement from Beech Grove to Victoria Avenue.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">There&#8217;s to be a new bus stop outside the United Reform Church. This will improve sight lines for people using the crossing.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Signalised Crossing at the Station Parade End of Victoria Avenue<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"601\" height=\"426\" src=\"https:\/\/hedgehogcycling.co.uk\/wp\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/09\/va-tro-5.png\" alt=\"Signalised crossing at the Station Parade end of Victoria Avenue\" class=\"wp-image-7004\" srcset=\"https:\/\/hedgehogcycling.co.uk\/wp\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/09\/va-tro-5.png 601w, https:\/\/hedgehogcycling.co.uk\/wp\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/09\/va-tro-5-300x213.png 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 601px) 100vw, 601px\" \/><figcaption class=\"wp-element-caption\">Signalised crossing at the Station Parade end of Victoria Avenue<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">There&#8217;s currently an uncontrolled crossing of Victoria Avenue at the Station Parade, i.e. no priority to pedestrians, just take your chances.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">A signalised (light-controlled) crossing is to be put in instead.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Overall View<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The plans for Victoria Avenue are unambitious, and contain no improvements for cycling.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Given that the Active Travel Fund 2 money was supposed to fund four flagship cycling schemes, what we&#8217;ve ended up with is pathetic.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">There is still a promise of a future Victoria Avenue cycleway, but there again there are always promises of &#8216;jam tomorrow&#8217; from NYC. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Para 3.6 of <a href=\"https:\/\/edemocracy.northyorks.gov.uk\/documents\/s32813\/Victoria%20Avenue%20ATF%202.pdf\">a council report from July 2024<\/a> said that TROs for both the pedestrian scheme and the cycle scheme should be advertised as soon as possible.
