He was the fastest of the sprinters in Chalon-sur-Saone.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Baptiste Veistroffer (Lotto Intermarch\u00e9) made an early solo break. He was then joined by Damiano Caruso, Ewen Costiou and Matteo Vercher.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Veistroffer then dropped the other three, but he was caught by a big-ish group with 33.5km to go.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The race came back together for a bunch sprint.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Alpecin Premiertech&#8217;s lead-out train made the running with 1km to go, and there was a big crash just behind them.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Philipsen was dropped off by Van der Poel perhaps a little too early.
