York Cycle Campaign is a volunteer-run community group that aims to
be the voice for all cyclists in York. You can sign up as a member or
a corporate supporter.
Their goal is for more locals and visitors to choose cycling as the
most obvious and sensible way of traversing the city. The Campaign
wants cycling in York to be safe, convenient, and accessible to all.
A tour of York by bike, featuring many of the most beautiful sights,
and uncovering the fascinating history of the city. Cycling allows you
to cover more ground more easily, and get a wider perspective as
compared with a walking tour.
I review cycle routes in York and compare the infrastructure against
the standards in LTN 1/20 Cycle Infrastructure Design, identifying
where improvements could be made.
I joined a cycling tour of York, and found it was an excellent way to
explore the city.
It's really a history tour, much like walking tours of York, but it's
a more relaxing and enjoyable way of getting between the sights, and
adds and extra element of fun.
When cycling in and around York, you come across disused railways -
some of them now bike paths, and others gradually fading into
invisibility. I thought it would be interesting to map out and find
out about the old railways around York.
