Edvald Boasson Hagen of Dimension Data won Stage 4 of the Criterium du Dauphiné in Belley.
According to CyclingNews, the stage was largely flat, but the final kilometre was uphill. Boasson Hagen sprinted from a long way out, and only Julian Alaphilippe (second) and Nacer Bouhanni (third) could get close.
There was a late split in the peloton, due to a crash. The 3km rule was not applied, and Froome, who was in the front part of the bunch, gained 9 seconds over Contador and Richie Porte. It seems that the GC wasn't neutralised because, although the crash caused hesitation in the second half of the bunch, they weren't blocked behind fallen riders.
