5th June 2016

Alberto Contador

Alberto Contador (Tinkoff) won today's prologue in Les Gets, at the Criterium du Dauphiné. Richie Porte (BMC) was second in the uphill time trial, and Chris Froome (Sky) was third.

This is a video of the stage highlights:

The climb was of Mont Chéry, a 1st Category climb which proved tough, with a gradient of 19% on the steepest part.

Contador said that it was the perfect day for him. Froome explained that he was 'running out of legs and just squeezing every bit out for the line.' However, 'I'm in good shape but I've still got some work to do, and we're a month out from the Tour still. I'm glad that's out of the way.'

Dan Martin was fourth, Julian Alaphilippe fifth, Wout Poels sixth, Romain Bardet seventh, and Adam Yates eighth. CyclingNews has the full race results.
