Government by propaganda catchphrase
8th May 2020
Boris Johnson's Conservative government only speaks in propaganda catchphrases.
Slogans designed to keep people safe are one thing, but propaganda catchphrases aimed at shaking off blame for the government's negligent handling of the pandemic in February and early March are quite another.
To the point that most people are thinking about having their ears stuffed with Polyfilla, Ministers and government spokespeople have been repeating:
- 'unprecedented'
- 'the right steps at the right time' - except that you didn't, did you? See Eddie Mair
- 'led by the science'
- 'working night and day'
- 'working around the clock'
The government spokesperson at the end of this article isn't far off a Full House of propaganda catchphrases in just two sentences.
Please don't
Speak to us in propganda catchphrases. It's insulting, and it reveals your opinion of the British public. You hold us in contempt, and believe that we're here to be manipulated by the oh-so-clever propaganda catchphrases thought up by Cummings.
Please do
Speak normally, like human beings, in sentences that make sense and actually relate to whatever question has been asked; treat the British people with respect, and talk to us they way you'd speak to intelligent adults.
