Jesus Herrada of Movistar timed his surge perfectly to win Stage 2 of the 2016 Criterium du Dauphiné in Chalmazel Jeansagnière.
According to CyclingNews, there was a gradual 6.8km climb to the finish, and Herrada gapped the peloton, and passed the remnants of a breakaway on the final curve. Tony Gallopin (Lotto Soudal) was second, and Serge Pauwels (Dimension Data) was third. Romain Bardet crashed after tangling with teammate Alexis Vuillermoz, and lost 45 seconds.
Chris Froome finished 8th, but didn't gain any time on race leader Contador.
