Napoléon in no.10
4th February 2020
'Napoléon's wars were his own wars, made inevitable by his measureless greed for power, wars which never served the interest of France, wars for which the deceived and all too patient nation paid with the blood of its sons...' That's Pieter Geyl, quoted by Frank McLynn in Napoléon, A Biography.
McLynn also quotes Napoléon's comment to Metternich: 'A man like me cares little for the lives of a million men.'
Boris Johnson hasn't taken Britain to war, but he is similar to Napoléon in his disregard for other people. Johnson uses the people of this country to further his own interests. It doesn't seem to matter to him how much he turns their lives upside down or damages the country's interests in the process.
In my opinion, Johnson doesn't even believe that leaving the EU is a good idea. The whole business has been about him - a vehicle to get him into no. 10 Downing Street.
Now he is there, how will he distract from the consequences of all the lies he has told on the way? How will he get "the people" to look the other way as the impossible promises he has made, unravel?
The early signs are that he will try to set the EU up as an enemy, despite the further damage he will do to Britain. It is sickening. Nobody should be fooled by this charlatan.
