Does Britain's party funding system inspire confidence, or is it murky and badly flawed?

If you join the Conservative Party Leader's Club by giving them £50,000 a year, you get to join the party leader Boris Johnson and other senior Conservatives at dinners, lunches, and receptions.

They are completely brazen about the arrangement. It isn't illegal, but in my opinion it corrodes trust in politics and it should be.

Access to the Prime Minister and other senior ministers ought not to be based on how much money you have given to their party.

The Guardian has reported on lobbying by government ministers on behalf of oil and gas company Petrofac. The Chief Executive of Petrofac has given hundreds of thousands of pounds to the Tories over the years.

The climate crisis

Should the Conservative Party take hundreds of thousands of pounds from the Chief Executive of a company in the oil and gas industry?

It is one of the reasons why people don't trust the Tories to deal with the climate crisis.
