Cycling in Yorkshire
York to Beningbrough, and York to Selby on the Solar System Greenway, are two of the best family bike rides in York.
Bike Rides In and Around York has more information about these family rides, as well as a family-friendly ride to Stamford Bridge and back.
There's a brilliant cycle route from the centre of York to Beningbrough, partly on a tarmacked path by the river Ouse, and partly on quiet roads.
It ends up at Beningbrough Hall, an C18th National Trust property (where cyclists are entitled to a free cup of tea).

This is a great ride from York to Selby and back, largely off-road.
It uses the trackbed of the old York and Doncaster Branch railway line. It features Cycle the Solar System, with scale models of the planets, the correct distance (proportionally) from the Sun and each other along the path.

The Hudson Way is near to rather than in York. It uses the trackbed of the old Market Weighton to Beverley railway line. It goes through pleasant Yorkshire Wolds farmland, and the destination is the interesting and historic market town of Beverley. Since the railway no longer exists, you'll have to pedal back again!
It's a flat 20 miles there and back, and I recommend a mountain bike.

Bike Rides In and Around York features a historical city tour, plus family rides, road rides, and mountain bike rides.
"This book is simply a treasure trove not only of great rides but also as a travel guide to the area."
