Reduced Bunch Sprint on Stage 1

Stage 1 of the 2025 Tour de France ended in a reduced bunch sprint, won comfortably by Jasper Philipsen of Alpecin Deceuninck.
There was an early break featuring Benjamin Thomas, Mathis Le Berre, Mattéo Vercher, Bruno Armirail and Jonas Rutsch. Benjamin Thomas took the first KOM point on the Cote de Notre-Dame-de-Lorette.
Back in the bunch there was a crash in which Filippo Ganna hurt his back. The Italian time trial specialist abandoned the race, as did Stefan Bissegger.
The break was caught with 105km left.

Jonathan Milan won the intermediate sprint.
Mattéo Vercher and Benjamin Thomas then had a second go at a breakaway, with the KOM point at Mont Cassel in their sights.
On the cobbles at the top of the climb, Thomas was first across the line but then lost control of his bike and fell, taking Vercher down with him.
With the race back together Jonas Vingegaard took the KOM point at Mont Noir.
The wind blew and echelons formed. Ultimately a front group of thirty or so riders formed, containing Vingegaard and Pogacar as well as sprinters Philipsen and Girmay.
Van der Poel led out Philipsen for the win, two bike lengths ahead of Girmay.
Remco Evenepoel, Primoz Roglic and Oscar Onley all failed to make the front group when the peloton split, and they lost 39s.
