Like Stages 1 & 2 of the Tour de France 2014 in Yorkshire, this was a day that belonged to the crowds lining the route.

After the rain on Stage 1 of the 2022 Grand Départ in Denmark, there was brilliant sunshine on Stage 2, and the spectators were clearly delighted to welcome the worlds’ greatest bike race to their back yard.

Magnus Cort

The rider who made the most of the day and generated the most enthusiasm was Magnus Cort. He was in the breakaway, and he mopped up all the King of the Mountains points to take the first polka-dot jersey. It was great to see him celebrate the achievement.

Stefan Bissegger

Stefan Bissegger suffered the disappointment of falls in the time trial yesterday, but today he showed his true value.

Rigoberto Uran was delayed and off the back of the peloton coming up to the Great Belt Bridge. Bissegger was tasked with dropping back to help Uran, and did a mighty turn to latch back onto the bunch.

Fabio Jakobsen & Wout van Aert

Fabio Jakobsen was impressive in the bunch sprint to the line, coming with a burst of speed in the last 50m to win.

Wout van Aert was second, and the time bonus he picked up means he takes the race lead.
