Jasper Philipsen won the sprint at the end of Stage 13 of the Tour de France 2024, to make the stage win score 3-2 to Biniam Girmay.

Wout van Aert was closing on the Belgian and took second. The consistent Pascal Ackermann was third.

For the second day running, an Arkéa lead-out man caused a problem. Amauary Capiot slowed and drifted towards the barriers on the left hand side of the road. Lotto Dstny’s Maxim van Gils, leading out Arnaud de Lie, gave Capiot a nudge as the gap closed, causing the Arkéa man to fall and bring down others including Cees Bol.

Video Highlights

These are video highlights of Stage 13.

The Breakaway and Crosswinds

The initial break had around twenty riders, including Jonas Abrahamsen, Mathieu van der Poel, Matej Mohoric, Arnaud de Lie and Adam Yates.

The other breakaway riders did not want Yates with them, because it meant that the peloton would not allow them a big advantage.

Visma Lease-a-Bike rode hard on the front of the bunch, notably with Wout van Aert.

In crosswinds, there were several splits in the peloton, but a reduced group ended up sprinting for the stage win.

Juan Ayuso Abandons

Juan Ayuso abandoned with Covid.
