Harrogate Station Gateway Second Consultation
18th October 2021
Cycling in Yorkshire
18th October 2021
A consultation on the detailed designs for Harrogate Station Gateway starts today, 18th October 2021, and runs until 12th November 2021.
These are the consultation materials for Harrogate Station Gateway Phase 2.
The scheme is divided into two areas, north (Plan A) and south (Plan B).
Plan A shows Cheltenham Parade, Station Parade (north), and Bower Road. The cycling plans include:
Plan B shows Station Parade (central and south), Station Square, Station Bridge, and East Parade (south). The cycling plans include:
Road space is being reallocated from motor vehicles to people on foot and on bikes. Most of the cycle provision is segregated.
The Dutch roundabout at the top of East Parade is exciting, and will be fun to use.
Pedestrianisation of James Street will only be part-time, because administrative steps for full pedestrianisation would delay the scheme.
Plans for cycle tracks on East Parade have been dropped, on the basis
that they can't be built within the timeframe, and it would increase
traffic disruption caused by the works.
The width of the cycle tracks is not specified. They should be at least the Desirable Minimums specified in Cycle Infrastructure Design guidance.
The segregated cycle tracks dissolve into shared use areas at major junctions on Station Parade including:
