Remco Back in the Saddle and Preparing for Tour de France

Remco Evenepoel is back in the saddle and preparing for the 2024 Tour de France.
In a video released on 5th May 2024, the Belgian all-rounder gave an insight into his recovery from injuries suffered in a crash during the Tour of the Basque Country.
The crash happened on 4th April 2024, and also involved Primoz Roglic and Jonas Vingegaard. Vingegaard seems to have come off worst.
Remco fractured his right collarbone and shoulder blade. He had surgery on the collarbone in Belgium two days later, and was discharged from hospital the day after that.
We see from the video that it was less than a month before the Soudal Quick-Step rider was back riding outdoors. Although released on 5th May, the video was filmed on 26th April 2024.
A Day in the Life of Remco Evenepoel
Evenepoel’s video day starts with a pre-breakfast session on rollers.
In the video, he explains that this is a heat session as part of preparation for an altitude camp in Sierra Nevada. He is therefore overdressed, so as to get hot (38.5C).
Next he has breakfast, then attends a school sports day.
This is followed by a 100km outdoor bike ride, Remco’s first since his crash. He uses wide tyres for a softer ride.
Evenepoel’s third and final session of the day is at a physiotherapy centre in Antwerp, doing strength exercises and physiotherapy. Part of the objective is to keep the muscles and ligaments around his injured shoulder in a good state.
Evenepoel intends to ride the Dauphiné, which starts on Sunday 2nd June 2024.
