No Mathieu? No Problem on Stage 20

Team Alpecin Deceuninck made light of the absence of Jasper Philipsen and Mathieu van der Poel with a win on Stage 20 of the Tour de France 2025.
It was their second sprinter, Kaden Groves, who took the victory, but not in a sprint.
This was a day for the breakaway, and it came down to a group of six up the final categorised climb, the Cote de Longeville.
On the descent, Ivan Romeo and Romain Grégoire crashed on a bend in the rain, and Simone Velasco went straight on rather than risk falling.
That left Kaden Groves, Frank van den Broek and Jake Stewart as a lead group of three.
With 16.5km left, Kaden Groves rode away from his two breakaway companions. Stewart was trying to force van den Broek to ride and close the gap, but he wouldn’t. The two of them may have thought they were playing a clever tactical game of bluff, but they were just handing the stage to Groves.
