GC Battle on Stage 14

Stage 14 of the Tour de France 2024 was decided on the final climb to Pla d’Adet.

Adam Yates attacked with 7km to go, then Pogacar attacked with 4.6km left. Pogacar joined up with Yates for a few hundred metres then ploughed on alone.

Behind, Vingegaard and Evenepoel rode together, then Vingegaard dropped the Belgian.

Pogacar won the stage, gaining 39s on Vingegaard and 1min9s on Evenepoel, plus time bonuses on the line.

The Breakaway

There was a breakaway featuring:

Lazkano was the first over the Col du Tourmalet.

Ben Healy was the last surviving breakaway rider on the final climb to the Pla d’Adet. He was overhauled by Adam Yates with 4.6km left.

GC Standings

Pogacar now leads with an advantage of 1min57 over Vingegaard. Remco is at 2min22.

Covid in the Peloton

Tom Pidcock withdrew from the Tour before Stage 14, suffering from Covid.

Pidcock’s teammate Geraint Thomas also has Covid, but says he has mild symptoms and continues to ride.

Guillaume Boivin and Amaury Capiot also abandoned the Tour, as did Alberto Bettiol.
