A consultation on devolution for York and North Yorkshire runs from 21st October to 16th December 2022.

The consultation is based on the devolution deal agreed by the York and N Yorkshire local authorities in the Summer. It would mean a Mayoral Combined Authority (MCA) for York and N Yorkshire, with a directly-elected Mayor.

The MCA would receive £18 million per year over 30 years, amounting to £540 million in total.

The consultation information says there would be £7 million for green economic growth and progress towards making the region carbon negative.

The Mayor and MCA would have new powers to develop a region-wide Local Transport Plan for an integrated transport network.

Timetable

The timetable is as follows:

  • Autumn 2022 consultation
  • Winter 2022 analysis of consultation responses
  • Spring 2023 Act of Parliament
  • Autumn 2023 MCA formed
  • Spring 2024 Mayoral elections

Consultation

The consultation is done through multiple choice and text boxes on Commonplace. Your responses and comments are then publicly available.

You have to give an email address, but this does not display publicly. Commonplace asks for a lot more details about you, but these are optional. There does seem to be an attempt by Commonplace to build profiles of people, in something of a data-grab.
