Pogacar, Vingegaard, Felix Gall and the Yates brothers approached the finish line of Stage 20 together, with Adam Yates performing a lead-out role for Pogacar.

Pogacar duly sprinted to the stage win. Gall was second, followed by JV and Simon Yates.

Thibaut Pinot featured prominently on the day, shortly before his retirement. He crested the Petit Ballon first, but was unable to maintain his lead to the end of the stage.

Video Highlights

These are video highlights of Stage 20 Tour de France 2023.

Earlier in the Day

Victor Campenaerts made an early break, but he was caught 5km from the top of the first climb, the Ballon d’Alsace.

Giulio Ciccone took the most mountains points over the Ballon d’Alscace, and his teammates Skjelmose and Pedersen were next. It became clear that Felix Gall was not going to contest the KOMs.

Carlos Rodriguez crashed on the descent and brought down Sepp Kuss. The crash caused a split to develop.

Ultimately, in the break were Giulio Ciccone, Maxim van Gils, Tom Pidcock, Mattias Skjelmose, Warren Barguil, Thibaut Pinot, Valentin Madouas, Kevin Vermaerke and Chris Harper.

Giulio Ciccone took the mountains points on the Col de la Croix des Moinats, the Col de la Grosse Pierre and the Col de la Schlucht. That meant he had secured the polka-dot jersey.

Thibaut Pinot attacked off the front of the breakaway and rode through the large crowds on the Petit Ballon alone at the head of the race.

Tom Pidcock and Warren Barguil caught Pinot on the climb of the Col du Platzerwasel.

The trio of Gall, Vingegaard and Pogacar then bridged up to the Pinot, Pidcock and Barguil.

Gall, V&P soon left the others behind. They went over the top of the Platzerwasel without Pogacar attacking.

The Yates brothers then caught the leading three on the plateau, 5km from the finish.
