Break vs Peloton on Stage 17 Rhone Valley Rally

It was breakaway versus peloton in the Rhone valley on Stage 17 of the Tour de France 2025.

The last breakaway rider was caught well before the finish, which meant a sprint in the rain in Valence. A crash in the final kilometre took out some of the favourites including Merlier and Jake Stewart.

Jonathan Milan was in the small group ahead of the crash, and took the stage win in front of Jordi Meeus.

The Breakaway

The day’s breakaway featured Vincenzo Albanese, Quentin Pacher, Mathieu Burgaudeau and Jonas Abrahamsen.

At one point their lead over the peloton was 2min45s.

Quinn Simmons of Lidl Trek was prominent on the front of the bunch, trying to bring the break back for his team’s sprinter Jonathan Milan.

Abrahamsen attacked his breakaway companions and left them behind with a little more than 10km left. The Uno-X rider was nevertheless caught by the peloton with 4.5km left.
