Stage 19 TDF 2023 Blog: Best of Three

Matej Mohoric won Stage 19 from a trio of breakaway riders.
He came towards the line with Ben O’Connor and Kasper Asgreen. O’Connor tried a long attack but was easily countered by Asgreen. Mohoric was on Asgreen’s wheel and just – only just – pipped the Dane for the win.
Video Highlights
These are video highlights of Stage 19 Tour de France 2023.
The Breakaway
There was a first breakaway, then at the intermediate sprint Jasper Philipsen and a group of 20 or so riders made a second breakaway from the yellow jersey peloton.
The two breakaway groups came together as a break of 30+ riders.
The Cote d’Ivory was a key point in the stage – potentially the opportunity to get rid of the fastest sprinters.
Ben O’Connor, Kasper Asgreen and Matej Mohoric were first to the top of the climb. A group that included Mads Pedersen, Philipsen, Mathieu van der Poel, Tom Pidcock and Christophe Laporte chased the front three after the climb.
The trio maintained their gap over the chasers, and contested a sprint for the line.
The Yellow Jersey Group
The yellow jersey group rolled across the line more than 13 minutes after the winner.
