Four Harrogate Cyclists Hit by Drivers in Less Than 2 Months

It’s early in 2024, but already two Harrogate cyclists have been hit by drivers in the year so far, following on from two other collisions in December 2023.
The report of the four crashes is in the Stray Ferret.
B6161 Oaker Bank, 6th February 2024
The most recent crash happened on 6th February 2024 on Oaker Bank, approaching the Jubilee Roundabout.
The driver of a white Volkswagen Golf must have been overtaking a cyclist without leaving enough room. The driver hit the cyclist and knocked him off his bike, but did not stop.
The vehicle will have damage to its door mirror.
York Place/Oatlands Drive Junction, 7th January 2024
The Stray Ferret says that a cyclist was injured by the driver of a vehicle at the junction of York Place and Oatlands Drive on Saturday 7th January 2024.
Police closed York Place to traffic, and local people saw the cyclist lying on the ground and being treated by paramedics.
Mother Shipton’s, 18th December 2023
On 18th December 2023 a cyclist was hit by a driver on the A59 near Mother Shipton’s Cave, Knaresborough, and sustained minor injuries. The driver did not stop.
The missing link between High Bridge/Mother Shipton’s and the start of the A59 cycle path further up the hill is one of Harrogate Cycle Action’s priorities – number 11.
For years, the campaign group has been asking North Yorkshire Council to plug the 150m gap, but NYC has failed to do so.
The council even received money for this route in 2020 from the Active Travel Fund 2 – but it has failed to build any on-the-ground improvements with the cash.
Asda, 15th December 2023
A female cyclist sustained minor injuries when hit by a driver near Asda, at the junction of Bower Road and Haywra Street.
Drivers routinely ignore the Left Turn Only out of Asda car park. I don’t know whether that is relevant to this incident or not.
