Thrilling Finish to Stage 11

Stage 11 of the Tour de France 2024 ended with a thrilling finish contested by the two best riders in the race. Jonas Vingegaard pipped Tadej Pogacar to the win.
Tadej Pogacar’s UAE team drove the pace on the front of the bunch for most of the day, with Nils Politt and Tim Wellens putting in much of the work. Then the Slovenian attacked with 31.6km to go – 600m from the top of the Puy Mary Pas de Peyrol.
Vingegaard caught Pogacar just before the top of the next climb, the Col de Pertus. Pogacar just held off Vingegaard to take the maximum 8s at the Bonus Point at the top of the col.
Pogacar and Vingegaard then rode together over the Col de Font de Cere and towards the line.
Evenepoel and Roglic were together 30 or so seconds back.
Roglic fell on the descent of the Col de Font de Cere, but as it was within 3km of the finish he was awarded the same time as Evenepoel.
It was uphill to the finish line, and that was where Vingegaard had a bit more energy left than Pogacar.
