In the Pink on Stage 17

Stage 17 of the Tour de France 2024 looked likely to be a breakaway day, and so it proved.
There was a breakaway of Benoot, Jungels, Grégoire and Cort, joined by Martin and Madouas.
A further 48-rider break chased the leaders. Visma riders in it included Laporte, van Aert and Benoot.
Simon Yates was the first of the 48 to bridge to the leading group, with 18km to go, and he left them almost immediately. Carapaz and Williams were the next to pass the group.
Carapaz dropped Williams and caught Yates, then attacked on the Col du Noyer with 13km left. Yates would not see Carapaz again before the finish line, the Ecuardorian winning the stage.
Yates, who was ill at the start of the Tour, was second and Enric Mas third.
