Finally it was a day for a breakaway, and Mads Pedersen of Lidl Trek took full advantage. His sprint was far too much for his breakaway companions, and he won Stage 4.

Pedersen’s teammate Quinn Simmons was second, with Raul Garcia of Movistar third.

With the peloton 13 minutes behind, Torstein Traeen of Uno-X Mobility is the new yellow jersey. His gap to Pogacar in the GC is 7min53s.

The early break of 34 riders included Mads Pedersen, Jasper Philipsen, Biniam Girmay, Quinn Simmons, Romain Grégoire, Mathias Vacek, Kévin Vauquelin, Michael Matthews and Torstein Traeen.

Girmay took the intermediate sprint.

There was a break from the break – Tratnik, Vacek and Kirsch – but the trio were caught by the rest of the break with 40km to go.

The leading group was down to ten riders with 16km left.

These are video highlights of Stage 4.
