Polka Dots on Top on Stage 20

Richard Carapaz took a solo victory at Alpe d’Huez on Stage 20, his second win of the 2026 Tour de France.

He was part of a breakaway which came down to Sepp Kuss, Jai Hindley and him on the Col de Sarenne.

Kuss was first to the top of the Sarenne, but Carapaz never gave up and kept the pressure on by reducing the gap. Kuss had two falls, and after the second Carapaz went past and didn’t look back.

Pogacar was playing domestique, nursing Isaac del Toro through the stage.

Arguably, it is embarrassing for the sport of cycling that the Slovenian is so much better than the rest that he doesn’t even have to race properly on the Queen stage of the Tour de France.
