Close Finish on Stage 21

Mathieu van der Poel won Stage 21 of the 2026 Tour de France on the Champs-Elysées, holding off a charging peloton.

He broke clear on the last climb of La Butte de Montmartre together with Pogacar, and the pair maintained a small gap until the last kilometre.

MVDP made a charge for the line as the sprinters’ teams – notably Lidl Trek for Mads Pedersen – closed in.

The race organisers said that Stage 21 represented a balance between puncheurs and sprinters, and they were exactly right – to within a couple of metres.
