Rossett Drive Barrier Removed

Before and after…Rossett Drive barrier

The barrier on the cycle path between Parsons Intake and Rossett Drive has been removed by North Yorkshire County Council (NYCC).

I raised this issue on 11th October 2021. The barrier was awkward to get through on a standard bike, and blocked certain cycles altogether. It was probably illegal under the Equality Act 2010.

Yes it has taken a long time to get the barrier removed. Yes it’s a very small improvement, but it is a definite improvement so it is cause to be moderately pleased.

Now on to bigger and better things.

NYCC promised to consult on permanent measures on Beech Grove and Otley Road in September 2022. The consultation has not started and this is the last day of September.

The ATF2 projects on Victoria Avenue and A59 Knaresborough Road should have been complete by 31st March 2022, but still haven’t started. We need NYCC to get on with them.

All this is in the context of the Routemap to Carbon Negative for the York & N Yorkshire region, under which it is planned to cut car use by 48% between 2020 and 2030, and increase cycling by 900%.

Given that, the Rossett Drive barrier is a welcome but tiny drop in the ocean.
